I am pleased to offer clay classes for children at traveling locations!
I am an active potter, clay instructor and Montessori teacher. I have been working with clay since 1988 and have taught in Montessori Early Childhood classrooms since 1999. My Bachelor’s Degree is in Art and Art Education for children Kindergarten through 12th grade.
Starting in 2007 I offered children’s clay classes in my home studio. Classes were small with flexibility for all learning styles. In May 2013 I opened Kind Hand Studio in Ballard. I offered a variety of classes for children ages 2 - 12 years old. Classes varied from one to four sessions, either building skills developed over time or a short session to discover the sensorial experience of clay. Classes were no bigger than 6 children.
In 2007 I also began teaching clay classes in several local Montessori Preschools. I have enjoyed working with a larger group of children and developing curriculum with the classroom teachers. In 2012 I completed an Artist in Residence at Whittier Elementary School making pinch pots with 95 kindergartners!
I continue to travel to local schools to teach clay classes. The classes I offer are 1-1/2 hours long. The class fee includes all materials, firing costs and transportation of projects from my studio to your school. Class instruction include a balance of making projects, skill building and free exploration with clay.
Each 1-1/2 hour class session costs $115. The type of project and the number of children at your school determines the number of sessions needed to start and complete the work. Each additional 1/2 hour I am at your school costs $45. I charge between $165 - $225 for classes outside the Seattle city limits, depending on how far away the school is located.
If you are interested in scheduling a class please contact me and we can design a project based on your children’s ages, abilities and interests. References of current schools I visit are available.
I hope to see you in a class sometime soon!
Kind Hand Studio is a creative clay space for children, where ever that space may be.
